Reebok Spartan Race Giveaway!

Spartan Race is on a mission to get you active, healthy, excited about change, and return to our ancient roots where running through woods, getting dirty, and facing adversity was part of everyday life. Our events are all about challenging today’s perception of normal.

Our events challenge the familiar, today’s perception of normal living and getting you out of your comfort zone! At Spartan Race, we do this everyday and it shapes everything we do.

Spartan says, "Having experienced many different racing events, we wanted to make adventure racing more accessible to everyone, but do not be fooled by the word ‘accessible’, as our events have a challenge for everyone’s needs."

Spartan Race now introduces a level for everyone beginning with the entry level Spartan Sprint, intermediate level Super Spartan, the advanced Spartan Beast, and the ‘99.9% need not apply’ extreme level Death Race.

Whatever your level, Spartan Race will test your strength, stamina, and sense of humor.
Use this code for 15% off any Spartan Race -

Which level would you compete at?  I am a all for an adventure, but I think I might be entry level!  :-)

Please Vote in the Run to Napa Contest

ZOOMA Napa Valley

So Zooma Race Series has started a contest (which I have entered) in which they will send the winning blogger ALL EXPENSES PAID on a trip to run the half marathon in Napa this Summer.  But it gets BETTER!  How can it get better than that you ask?  They are throwing in another all expenses paid trip for the blogger to raffle away to one of her blog readers....AMAZING.

I really want to win this for a number of reasons.  I feel like these great contests I always hear about are really awesome, BUT the races would require me to take days off from school...hard to do.  This one is over my school break....ahhhhh.  Also, my sister lives out there and I would get to see her!  Yeah!  My DC friend will be living out there with her boyfriend at that point.  Double Yeah!  And I would absolutely LOVE to get to know one of my blog readers in such a fun and intimate way!  Racing, Spa-ing, Wine Tasting....oh my.

But, here's the thing.  I am currently in third place.  The leader has quite the lead.  I had though about giving up, throwing in the towel but then I thought no way.  I am always telling myself not to give up when running and telling others to do the would be wrong of me to do that with this!  So I forge on!

I would love your vote daily to win, so that not only I can go, but one of you can too!

When you click to vote it will look like this.  Just click the white vote button and you are done.  Voting is once per day through 2/24.  You can click on "click to vote" or the button at the top, it should take you to the same place.

So I apologize in advance for posting this to facebook every dang day until Feb 24th, (really I do apologize) but I really, really want to win!
SIDE NOTE: Can you believe I have NEVER been to Napa even though I lived in California?  Ugh.  It's true.  This will be my first visit and I coming from DC!  Crazy.

Vega One Plant Based Protein for Recovery

I have decided to make One Change...I need to be better about refueling after a workout and giving my body some plant based protein for recovery.  If I don't refuel properly, I can sometimes become a snacking monster and that's when bad choices happen!
I have recently discovered Vega One all in one nutritional shakes.  I really like them because they are plant based.
I used it after yesterday's one hour of hot yoga followed by a 10 mile run.  I put it in a blender with coconut milk, water and a banana.

Good for your body and the planet, Vega One Nutritional Shake is the clean, plant-based choice to fuel your healthy, active lifestyle—without compromise. Made from natural, whole food ingredients, Vega One is a convenient, all-in-one supplement, packed with:
  • 50% daily intake of vitamins and minerals
  • 15 g protein
  • 6 g fibre
  • 1.5 g Omega-3
  • Antioxidants
  • Probiotics
  • Greens
Formulated by Brendan Brazier, professional Ironman triathlete and bestselling author on performance nutrition, Vega One Nutritional Shake is free from dairy, gluten and soy, and contains no added sugar, artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners.

At Home Circuit Workout

This workout will give you about 35 mins of active workout time.  I know in many places around the country, it is too cold to work out outside and in some places, even the gyms are closed!  I do this work out in our basement and even our 3 year old gets in on the act!  Put on some pumping music and kids love to dance along and try out the moves!

You can print the signs for each station of the circuit here:

I tape these up around the room so it is easy to remember what move you are supposed to be doing.  Each station is 90 secs and you will be doing three rounds.

In order to know when to switch, download the free app call IntervalTimer.
You then set it to 1:30 for each interval and it will "ding" above your music playing over the iPhone.

And off you go on a great at home workout the whole family can do.

My daughter cheering me on doing the circuit work out in her playroom!

Recipe: Vegetable Juice Pulp Fritters

  • As I was juicing today, I thought there has got to be something I can do with all this beautiful pulp that was streaming from my juicer.  Delicious solution found!

  • 1 cup juice pulp (I've found carrots, spinach, and beets work best.  Wheatgrass and Kale was too stringy/chewy)
  • 1 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon mustard (grey popon)
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/8 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs Italian style OR 1/4 cup cooked quinoa and add a dash of herbs
If you aren't vegan, I am thinking you could add an egg to the mix to hold it all together better, but I chose not to.

Combine all the ingredients until evenly combined. It will hold together well when formed into patties.
Place patties on a greased saucepan and cook on both sides over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. The patties will hold together but will be soft and a little crumbly.
I paired mine with organic ketchup.
